Vigil@nce - Qemu: information disclosure via pci_read

August 2014 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

A local attacker can read a memory fragment of Qemu, in order to
obtain information that may be sensitive.

Impacted products: Unix (platform)

Severity: 1/4

Creation date: 25/08/2014

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The Qemu product may be used as a full system emulator.

System emulation includes PCI buses emulation. However, the
pci_read function of the source file "pcihp.c" wrongly checks an
array index, which may lead to read outside of the buffer and to
return 4 bytes of private memory to the user.

A local attacker can therefore read a memory fragment of Qemu, in
order to obtain information that may be sensitive.
