Vigil@nce - Perl IO-Socket-SSL: unchecked certificate
December 2010 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
When an application uses the Perl IO::Socket::SSL module, the
SSL_verify_mode option is not honored, so the remote certificate
is not checked.
Severity: 2/4
Creation date: 06/12/2010
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The Perl IO::Socket::SSL module creates SSL sockets.
The SSL_verify_mode option indicates how to check the remote
certificate :
– 0x0 : no check
– 0x1 : check
– 0x2 : require a client certificate
– etc.
However, this option is not used. If the application using Perl
IO::Socket::SSL sets a non null value, it is thus ignored.
When an application uses the Perl IO::Socket::SSL module, the
SSL_verify_mode option is not honored, so the remote certificate
is not checked.
