Vigil@nce - OpenSSL: memory leak via hostname

March 2015 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can create a memory leak in the hostname extension of
OpenSSL, in order to trigger a denial of service.

Impacted products: OpenSSL

Severity: 2/4

Creation date: 16/03/2015

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The OpenSSL library supports the "hostname" TLS extension.

However, the memory allocated to process this extension is never
freed.

An attacker can therefore create a memory leak in the hostname
extension of OpenSSL, in order to trigger a denial of service.
