Vigil@nce - OpenBSD: denial of service via httpd

July 2015 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can preform a quick error query on httpd of OpenBSD,
in order to trigger a denial of service.

Impacted products: OpenBSD

Severity: 2/4

Creation date: 04/05/2015

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The OpenBSD product offers a web service.

This service logs events. However, the logging buffer is allocated
too late in the server_accept() function. If the httpd service
tries to log too soon, it then dereferences a NULL pointer.

An attacker can therefore preform a quick error query on httpd of
OpenBSD, in order to trigger a denial of service.
