Vigil@nce - NetBSD: memory leak via setsockopt

September 2014 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can create a memory leak via setsockopt() on NetBSD,
in order to trigger a denial of service.

Impacted products: NetBSD

Severity: 1/4

Creation date: 09/09/2014

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The setsockopt() function defines options of a socket.

However, the memory allocated to process an IPv6 option in
netinet6/ip6_output.c is never freed.

An attacker can therefore create a memory leak via setsockopt() on
NetBSD, in order to trigger a denial of service.
