Vigil@nce: Linux kernel, integer overflow via InfiniBand
January 2011 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
A local attacker can use an InfiniBand Userspace Verb query, in
order to generate an integer overflow, leading to a memory
corruption.
– Severity: 1/4
– Creation date: 07/01/2011
IMPACTED PRODUCTS
– Linux kernel
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The InfiniBand technology is used for communication with external
devices.
The ib_uverbs module implements InfiniBand Userspace Verb. Users
can thus directly access to InfiniBand.
The ib_uverbs_poll_cq() function of the drivers/infiniband/core/uverbs_cmd.c
file processes Userspace Verb queries. However, if the number of
queries is too high, an integer overflow occurs.
A local attacker can therefore use an InfiniBand Userspace Verb
query, in order to generate an integer overflow, leading to a
memory corruption.
