Vigil@nce - Internet Explorer: use after free via Script Debugging

October 2014 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can force the usage of a freed memory area in Script
Debugging of Internet Explorer, in order to trigger a denial of
service, and possibly to execute code.

Impacted products: IE

Severity: 2/4

Creation date: 03/10/2014

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The Internet Explorer product allows developers to enable the
Script Debugging feature.

However, when a ScriptEngine object is manipulated, a freed
pointer is reused.

An attacker can therefore force the usage of a freed memory area
in Script Debugging of Internet Explorer, in order to trigger a
denial of service, and possibly to execute code.
