Vigil@nce - F5 BIG-IP: memory leak via Last Hop Module
March 2016 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can send UDP packets, to create a memory leak in the
Last Hop Module of F5 BIG-IP, in order to trigger a denial of
service.
Impacted products: BIG-IP Hardware, TMOS.
Severity: 2/4.
Creation date: 15/01/2016.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The F5 BIG-IP product analyzes UDP packets in its Last Hop Kernel
Module.
When the configuration uses "Use BIND Server on BIG-IP", with an
UDP service, and an IP Pool, the memory allocated to process UDP
packets is never freed.
An attacker can therefore send UDP packets, to create a memory
leak in the Last Hop Module of F5 BIG-IP, in order to trigger a
denial of service.
