The CCR Group taps Consentry to deploy indentity-based control & LAN segmentation

October 2007 by Marc Jacob

ConSentry Networks, the leader in secure switching, announced today that the CCR Group, a subsidiary of Commerzbank, has selected ConSentry’s LANShield Controllers and Switches to seamlessly protect its network using identity-based access control while also providing network segmentation, greater network visibility, and protection against zero-day malware attacks.

With almost $25 billion of assets under management, the CCR Group is a major asset-management firm. The company’s growth brought Phillipe Bremard, CTO at the CCR Group, the challenge of maintaining a secure network while ensuring that the business remains up to speed.

“Five years ago, we built our local network and focused on performance and availability,” said Mr Bremard. “We realized that we were reaching our limits and faced losing availability, so we decided to apply new security polices on our network to protect us against new threats.”

Mr Bremard’s main concerns were improving network availability, monitoring, and finding a way to manage and control network access. After studying traditional approaches based on VLAN segmentation and firewalls, Mr Bremard and his team concluded that those implementations were too risky and complex for the company’s networks.

Mr Bremard ultimately selected ConSentry’s LANShield Controllers and Switches to solve his problem after hearing about the company from trusted partner Vipawan. The CCR Group selected the ConSentry solution for a number of reasons:

• Offers identity-based control for users and groups

• Provides real visibility of all use of the network with a simple, centralized management station

• Gives IT the means to capture and view all data and to set policies

• Offers contractor / guest authentication with a captive portal

• Quarantines non-compliant PCs with an integrity check feature

• Provides zero-day malware containment

• Avoids any infrastructure or performance impact on the current network’s design

• Transparently deploys in the core network and has incremental deployment capabilities

• Provides network segmentation without VLAN implementation.

“The CCR Group provides an excellent example of why financial organizations turn to ConSentry to simplify the process of protecting sensitive information,” said Tom Barsi, president and CEO of ConSentry. “The ability to monitor and control individual users and applications in a single platform is fundamental to compliance and overall LAN security.”
