Thales Datacryptor high-speed optical network encryptors achieve FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification

Thales announces that its Datacryptor high speed SONET/SDH and Ethernet Layer 2 hardware-based network encryptors have received FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification.
The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) is an internationally recognized security benchmark for cryptographic modules developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). As security requirements are becoming increasingly stringent, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has specified that all cryptographic solutions must meet FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification. FIPS spans four distinct security levels. Level 3 notably adds requirements for physical tamper-resistance of cryptographic modules.
The newly certified models in the high-speed optical network encryptor family are:
– 100 Mbps Ethernet Layer 2
– 1 Gbps Ethernet Layer 2
– 10 Gbps Ethernet Layer 2
– OC-3/12/48/192 SONET/SDH
