Telehouse Data Centers Expand In Greater China

June 2012 by Emmanuelle Lamandé

Telehouse Group announces that its parent company, $42 billion telecommunications giant, KDDI Corporation, will invest approximately $140.6 million (11 billion Japanese yen) to expand its data centre business in the Chinese market. The new Telehouse data centre will be opened in Beijing, proudly offering the Telehouse global standard of data centre services in December 2012. Telehouse will also seek to expand its customer colocation space in Telehouse Hong Kong CCC.

KDDI, along with SINNET, a provider of data centre and internet services based in Beijing, have worked together to establish the joint venture, Telehouse Beijing BDA Co, Ltd with both companies operating and maintaining the Telehouse Beijing site.

KDDI presently operates four data centres in three cities inside the Greater China Region, including Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The newest Beijing data centre will become the fifth Telehouse colocation facility with total floor space of 67,000 m².

Telehouse’s newest purpose built data centre will be a large scale, carrier-neutral facility boasting a floor area of approximately 25,000 m². That will be situated in the Beijing Technological Development Area (BDA), a highly sought after base for major companies.

In addition to the new data centre, Telehouse Hong Kong CCC, which opened in 2011, will be expanded by 11,500 m², making it one of the largest data centres in Hong Kong.
