Oscilloquartz Enhances OSA 5420 Series to Deliver Industry’s Most Agile Network Synchronization Toolkit

September 2017 by Marc Jacob

Oscilloquartz, an ADVA Optical Networking company, announced several major upgrades to its OSA 5420 Series that now make it the industry’s most agile synchronization toolkit. The new features combine the delivery of synchronization over IPv6, support of ITU-T G.8275.2, expanded use of all major global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and increased security. Collectively, these new capabilities mean that the OSA 5420 can now be used across an even wider range of industries to deliver robust, secure and packet-based IEEE 1588 PTP synchronization. As with all Oscilloquartz products, the key focus is on helping service providers to leverage their existing networks to meet increasingly advanced and progressively stringent synchronization demands in an operationally efficient and cost-effective way.

The key to helping service providers derive greater value from their existing networks comes with the support of ITU-T G.8275.2. With this, the OSA 5420 Series can deliver time and phase synchronization over partially aware and even unaware networks. The OSA 5420 Series goes even further though and can now also deliver phase synchronization over IPv6. This capability comes as a direct response to service providers who are experiencing scalability challenges with small cell deployments and Remote PHY devices in cable networks. What’s more, in order to protect against DoS attacks, the OSA 5420 Series now includes new security and prevention features that deliver enhanced protection directly on the hardware.

Another key update to the OSA 5420 Series is support for the European Space Agency’s Galileo GNSS. The addition of Galileo to the OSA 5420 Series means that the technology now comprehensively supports every major GNSS constellation - GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo. Another key feature here is that the device can be configured to operate with dual constellations. This dual support provides a far more robust and resilient solution than anything previously available. And with access to more satellites than ever before, the OSA 5420 Series offers even greater levels of timing accuracy, availability and resiliency.
