NextiraOne’s Energy Efficient Data Centre Architecture Tops the Leader Board at prestigious London Data Centre Awards

June 2013 by Marc Jacob

NextiraOne and its customer Howden Joinery have been honoured in the Data Centre Solutions Awards Ceremony as winners of the Data Centre Energy Efficiency Product of the Year 2013. The accolade was awarded to NextiraOne for helping Howden Joinery to lower the energy consumption of its Northampton-based core site by 60% using its NextiraOne Energy Efficient Data Centre Architecture solution.

NextiraOne’s specialist Facilities Infrastructure team developed and implemented an energy-efficient Data Centre solution for Howden’s IT infrastructure to drastically reduce the operational expenditure (OPEX) costs. This allowed the company to grow and develop its business beyond its current size without the need to move premises or pay higher running charges. As the company neared its existing power supply’s full capacity level, NextiraOne was able to implement its green energy solution without causing disruption to Howden’s continued level of service or quality. The overall power consumption of the joinery company was dramatically cut from peak readings of 392 amps to a much more controlled level of 158 amps.

Clive Cockburn, Head of IS Infrastructure, Howden Joinery Group plc, said: “We are delighted that this award has recognised the innovative and extremely effective new solution that NextiraOne has implemented for us. The combination of new energy-efficient technologies and improved management techniques has brought our power consumption down by an incredible 60%. Thanks to NextiraOne’s solution we continue to have the capacity to grow our business on our main site.”

Steven Skakel, Managing Director UK & Ireland for NextiraOne, said: “This award underlines our strong working relationship with our customer, Howden Joinery. Our Energy Efficient Data Centre Architecture solution is a highly flexible solution that can be deployed quickly and easily without disruption to ongoing operations and can be used to boost productivity and efficiency – exactly what Howden Joinery needed. Together we have been able to create a solution that has drastically reduced the company’s energy consumption at a time that it was almost at its usage limit capacity. We are delighted that this achievement has been recognised with this award.”

The Data Centre Solutions Awards reward the products, projects and services as well as honour companies and teams operating in Data Centre fields. The DCS Awards recognise the achievements of end-users, channel partners and vendors alike.

Franziska Priebe, Marketing Manager of award organisers Angel Business Communications, says: “This year we have had not only a significant increase in the overall number of nominations but also in the total votes received. The DCS Awards recognise the users, manufacturers and suppliers operating in the Data Centre fields and are voted for by the readers of our wide range of print and online publications. All finalists did well in making the shortlist but NextiraOne was the clear winner in its category Data Centre Energy & Efficiency Product of the Year.”
