New MobileIron Innovations Simplify Mobile Operations for Large Enterprises

April 2014 by Emmanuelle Lamandé

MobileIron announced new Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) capabilities.

MobileIron announced two integrations with Splunk software: the embedding of Splunk software into the MobileIron platform and the release of the MobileIron App for Splunk Enterprise.
Integrated with MobileIron’s EMM platform, Splunk software can extract more than 200 machine data fields per mobile device that describe an organisation’s mobile environment and provide comprehensive system health data. This data is then collected by Splunk Enterprise where the mobile machine data can be correlated with other IT data and analysed in Splunk Enterprise or with the MobileIron App for Splunk Enterprise.
Available on the Splunk Apps website, the MobileIron App for Splunk Enterprise works in tandem with the Splunk software embedded on MobileIron’s EMM platform to provide pre-built visualisations about an organisation’s mobile IT machine data and generate graphs, reports, alerts, and dashboards. Joint customers can download the MobileIron App for Splunk Enterprise on Splunk Apps.

MobileIron has also introduced Help@Work, a customisable iOS app. Features include:
Screen sharing of the entire device. Screen sharing sessions display the entire device to help desk staff but are initiated and confirmed by the end user to ensure privacy. Sharing sessions can take place over the WAN, Wi-Fi, and cellular networks, and inside and outside the network.
Customisable experience. Companies can customise Help@Work with simple text and logo updates or even change the look and feel of the end-to-end employee experience. Customisation is done via HTML and does not require specialised UI knowledge.
Simple distribution. IT administrators can distribute Help@Work in a few simple steps.

To support organisations as they use more mobile apps for work, MobileIron previously announced MobileIron Tunnel, one of the first instances of per app VPN, to securely connect mobile apps to back-end systems. Tunnel delivers an end-to-end solution for per app VPN on iOS to secure data-in-motion from almost any managed App Store app.
Tunnel allows organisations to authorise both internally-built apps and App Store apps to access corporate resources behind the firewall. Unapproved and personal apps are blocked from using Tunnel, which enhances security and protects user privacy.
Tunnel simplifies authentication through its support of iOS 7 single sign on (SSO). MobileIron’s ability to proxy Kerberos allows iOS 7 SSO to be used with devices that are not on the corporate network without needing to expose the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC).
