ITW Security’s Holographic laminate protect Moldova’s E-Passport

December 2017 by Marc Jacob

ITW has supplied over 500,000 holographic passport laminates to protect and secure the variable data page on the new Moldova e-Passport, produced by high security printer and systems integrator Garsu Pasaulis UAB, based in Vilnius, Lithuania. The new e-Passport launches in December and includes the newly designed ITW Security Division holographic laminate alongside new technologies. All holders of the new Moldova e-Passport can continue to travel into Europe, without the need for an additional visa.

ITW Security Division is unique in its ability to offer a complete range of laminates across different document types and specifications. Its flexibility and capacity to supply a secure holographic laminate from ‘under one roof’ was a key requirement for Garsu Pasaulis UAB and its decision in selecting ITW Security for the project. The new Moldova holographic laminate was manufactured from start to finish in one of ITW Security Division’s secure facilities, which are independently audited yearly against the industry’s most stringent physical security standards and regularly audited by government customers.

Having identified the style of passport book, a bespoke holographic design was created by the ITW Security Division design team that was both cost effective in its origination and capable of being supplied in the required lead-time and budget for the project. Passports by their very nature require the variable data of each holder to be secure and protected from fraudulent activity. It is essential that these pages are adequately protected from tampering and alteration and the ITW Security holographic laminate works seamlessly with the passport page design to protect the new e-Passport holder’s photo and variable data.

Karina Vlasova of Garsu Pasaulis UAB commented “We are delighted with the result of our new e-Passport for Moldova and the support provided by ITW Security Division has ensured protection of the data pages by combining traditional holographic effects with high security print within the cost and lead-time demands of this project.”
Commenting on the results Joanne Ogden, ITW Security Division’s Global Sales Manager said “Some of the world’s most secure passports utilize ITW Security Division’s security laminates to protect their data pages from counterfeiting and alteration attempts. Our unique combination of holographic and printed security features integrated within our holographic reel to reel solution for Garsu Pasaulis UAB, ensured we were able to deliver a unique, cost effective security solution for the new Moldova e-Passport and we are extremely happy with the finished result."
