Gil Fromovitch, Cyber-Ark Software Ltd. : Cyber-Ark PIM a solution against the risk of insider threat

September 2010 by Marc Jacob

Cyber-Ark is an Information Security company, specializing in Privileged Identity Management (PIM) – a suite of products for securing and managing administrative shared accounts within the Enterprise. For Gil Fromovitch, Channel Director Western Europe & Africa, Cyber-Ark Software Ltd. : “One of the biggest concerns today is the risk of insider threat. In many organizations, the same root or Administrator password is used across the organization, making it easier for a disgruntled insider to access or steal sensitive information, or even take control of key business systems. These users are the most powerful users in the organization as they have administrative rights to the Enterprise’s most sensitive business data and systems.”

GSM : Can you present your company?

Gil Fromovitch : One of the biggest concerns today is the risk of insider threat. In many organizations, the same root or Administrator password is used across the organization, making it easier for a disgruntled insider to access or steal sensitive information, or even take control of key business systems. These users are the most powerful users in the organization as they have administrative rights to the Enterprise’s most sensitive business data and systems.

Cyber-Ark is an Information Security company, specializing in Privileged Identity Management (PIM) – a suite of products for securing and managing administrative shared accounts within the Enterprise.

Cyber-Ark is the leading vendor in this market according to analysts based on the number and size of its customers. Cyber-Ark is implemented at 7 of the top 10 worldwide banks. Moreover, 1 in every 3 Fortune 50 companies selected Cyber-Ark for their PIM solution and with more than 700 global customers, Cyber-Ark has vast experience and knowledge in solving PIM challenges with a clear market vision of the PIM market in the years to come

Cyber-Ark PIM is a suite of products which addresses the challenges of managing and securing the different privileged shared accounts within the Enterprise. Currently the PIM suite constitutes 4 different products. Enterprise Password Vault secures and manages the privileged shared accounts on target devices in the network. Application Identity Management eliminates hard coded user/password combination in scripts and applications. Privileged Session Manager records privileged session on the target device and the On-Demand Privileges Manager replaces SUDO-like solutions with an enterprise-ready solution for controlling super user activities. Cyber-Ark’s PIM suite is an integrated solution which allows you to expand with its products as your business needs evolve.

GSM: What is your main product in 2010 ?

Gil Fromovitch : In 2010, Cyber-Ark introduced V6.0 of its PIM Suite, with the launch of a new product - On-Demand Privileges Manager. The On-Demand Privileges Manager is the first unified solution for managing and monitoring superusers and privileged accounts under one roof. Usage of accounts such as ’root’ users on UNIX is no longer anonymous and can now be controlled by pre-defined granular access control, where both the command itself and the output are recorded.

GSM : Which type of customers are you focusing ??

Gil Fromovitch : Cyber-Ark’s PIM Suite is an Enterprise-class solution. Cyber-Ark is implemented at 7 of the top 10 worldwide banks. Moreover, 1 in every 3 Fortune 50 companies selected Cyber-Ark for their PIM solution and with more than 700 global customers, Cyber-Ark has vast experience and knowledge in solving PIM challenges with a clear market vision of the PIM market in the years to come. Cyber-Ark is also implemented across all verticals with a large presence in the Financial, Telecommunication, Pharmaceutical and Manufacturing industries.

GSM : What are the main strengths of your products ?

Gil Fromovitch : The main strengths of Cyber-Ark’s PIM Suite lie both in the variety of its Products (currently 4 different products within the PIM Suite) that address the different aspects of Privileged Shared Accounts with a unified and integrated product. This significantly reduces ongoing administration costs and eases the path to audit with one system that provides correlated reports of privileged account activity. Cyber-Ark’s PIM is also an enterprise-ready system with out of the box integration with leading IT systems such as SIEM, authentication, identity management, ticketing systems and more. Moreover, currently supporting hundreds of target systems in today’s datacenter, it can easily support additional target systems with plug-ins that can be implemented in days. Not less important is Cyber-Ark’s diverse implementations and longstanding experience in the industry based upon which we have developed award-winning products and are acclaimed by analysts as the leaders in the Privileged Identity Management domain.

GSM : How are you following your customers ?

Gil Fromovitch : Cyber-Ark is in constant contact with its customers on strategic and sensitive projects Cyber-Ark has worldwide presence and each customer is allocated a Cyber-Ark TAM (Technical Account Manager) who works with the customer during the implementation. Whether the implementation is done through our global partners or not, Cyber-Ark TAM is in the loop of the implementation, validating the design & the different steps of the implementation. In addition, Cyber-Ark organizes annual Customers events where customers can hear about Cyber-Ark’s future plans and industry vision as well as learn from other customers. We’ve just returned from Dublin, where we’ve been meeting with our European Customers & Partners, having them meeting with Cyber-Ark executives management to share their feedbacks, their wishes and sharing with them Cyber-Ark’s roadmap for 2011-12.

GSM : How is structured your commercial newtork ?

Gil Fromovitch : As I’ve mentioned, Cyber-Ark has over 100 global partners. I’m happy to say that we have very professional and committed partners, who appreciate Cyber-Ark’s commitment to its customers and implementations. In most cases, our partners introduce us to new prospects who they have good contact with, and in other situations, whether from marketing events and marketing campaigns we expand the visibility of our offering and need for such a solution.

GSM : How is structured your technical support in France and Europe?

Gil Fromovitch : Cyber-Ark is a worldwide company. In addition to its global partner presence, within Europe Cyber-Ark has presence is Germany, UK and France.

GSM : To conclude, what would be the meesage to your customers ?

Gil Fromovitch : First and most important, always take care of the Insider Threat. We have work to do, we provide the tools to our IT department to properly manage our servers & applications that hold our most sensitive business data but actually, we don’t have a clue who is connecting to our servers, what are they doing. Think about it, there are so many sub-contractors, outsourced, managed-services and our own IT, who are constantly using these privileged shared accounts to do their job,so we need to mitigate this risk. Cyber-Ark PIM suite is all about that. Mitigating the risk by enforcing Access Control on WHO can access WHICH device, WHEN, WHY and also WHAT did he do in this privileged session! Cyber-Ark is an experienced company and has recently released Privileged Identity Management v.6.0 to deliver complete security and audit control for organizations’ most powerful users..
