ForeScout Recognised as a Leader in Gartner 2013 Magic Quadrant for Network Access Control

January 2014 by Marc Jacob

ForeScout Technologies, Inc., the provider of pervasive network security solutions for Global 2000 enterprises and government organisations, today announced its third consecutive year of being named by Gartner Inc. as a leader in its 2013 Magic Quadrant report for Network Access Control (NAC).1 ForeScout’s innovative CounterACT platform and ControlFabric architecture serve as catalysts to address continuous monitoring and mitigation as well as to enhance interoperability between disparate security solutions.

According to Gartner’s “Magic Quadrant for Network Access Control”2, NAC vendors are beginning to differentiate their solutions through their breadth of integrations with other products. Mobile device management (MDM) integrations are a requirement to address the BYOD trend, and integrations with firewalls and other security components enable sharing of contextual data. Enterprises are increasingly integrating their NAC implementations with other security components. Integrations with security information and event management (SIEM) are the most common, followed by integrations with next-generation firewalls (NGFWs). Several vendors provide bi-directional integrations, so that NAC solutions can share data and also act on alerts from these systems (for example, removing a device from the network). Some vendors have also begun to integrate their NAC solutions with advanced threat defence offerings to remove compromised endpoints from the network.

In this report3, leaders are successful in selling large NAC implementations (10,000 nodes and greater) to multiple large enterprises. Leaders are pure-play NAC vendors or networking and/or security companies that have been first to market with enhanced capabilities as the market matures. Leaders have the resources to maintain their commitment to NAC, have strong channel strength and have financial resources. They have also demonstrated a strong understanding of the future direction of NAC, including the impact of BYOD. Leaders should not equate to a default choice for every buyer, and clients should not assume that they must buy only from vendors in the Leaders quadrant.

Its flagship product, ForeScout CounterACT™, exemplifies ForeScout’s leadership in pervasive network security. In October, ForeScout fortified its continuous monitoring and mitigation capabilities by enhancing its innovative ControlFabric technology and partner program. The CounterACT platform enables security and management products to dynamically share information, which, in turn, allows IT organisations to more rapidly respond to a broad range of enterprise security and operational issues. Its ControlFabric architecture features new interfaces that open CounterACT to developers, customers and system integrators, allowing them to flexibly integrate CounterACT with other infrastructure solutions. ForeScout CounterACT, leveraging ControlFabric technology, was selected as a cornerstone technology for 15 of the 17 recipients of the recent General Services Administration (GSA) $6 billion blanket purchase agreement for the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) Initiative in mid-2013.

In addition to Gartner recognition, ForeScout received accolades from a number of prestigious organisations in 2013, including:

Being named by Frost & Sullivan as the sole market contender in NAC
SC Magazine 5-star, “Best Buy” rating and Innovator Award
Government Security News Best Network Security
GovTek Best Mobile Solution
CRN Channel Chief Award
InfoSecurity Global Excellence Award
McAfee Partner of the Year

“Given infrastructure complexity, access diversity and advanced threats, enterprises’ demand for real-time visibility, greater control context and automated mitigation has fueled our success,” said Gord Boyce, CEO of ForeScout. “I’m extremely proud of our team’s ability to deliver innovations that address customer requirements for pervasive network security solutions.”
