Brazilian Trojan uses government servers and Google Chrome plugins to steal data
August 2013 by ESET
ESET has uncovered a banking Trojan targeting Brazilian computers by using a
Brazilian government server to collect victim’s information and Google Chrome(tm)
browser plugins to steal sensitive data.
According to the findings of ESET’s latest research, the banking Trojan spread using
social engineering techniques to infect user’s PC. Among the data it collected were
Brazilian personal ID numbers, passwords and PIN or 4-digit validation number of
cash cards and account numbers.
Through collaboration with CERT.BR<http://www.cert.br/>
, the Brazilian authority
responsible for handling network threats, ESET has been able to help disable this
attack and block the email accounts related to this threat - informing the affected
institutions and organisations about the attack.
