Blue Coat Names Tom Shea General Manager of PacketShaper Business Unit

Blue Coat Systems, Inc., announced that it has appointed Tom Shea general manager of its PacketShaper® business unit.
Prior to joining Blue Coat, Shea was president and chief executive officer at Gear6, where he shifted the company’s strategic direction to focus on emerging market opportunities in scaling cloud and Web application infrastructures. Prior to Gear6, Shea was chief executive officer at Mirra, a provider of digital content protection solutions that was acquired by Seagate. Shea started his career at Adaptec, ultimately serving as executive vice president and general manager of Adaptec’s Software Products Group, where he was responsible for establishing the company’s initiatives in digital media software. In 2001, Adaptec’s Software Division was spun out as a public company, Roxio, with Shea serving as president and COO.
Shea holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.
