Acronis Universal Restore, An essential tool for the longevity of SMBs

April 2010 by Marc Jacob

Whatever the size or its activity, each company should be equipped with the tools for a solid disaster recovery plan to ensure its longevity. The Acronis Universal Restore module allows users to be prepared for unforeseen events that could lead to data loss. It offers a full disaster recovery solution by allowing the user to transfer the computer disk image (workstation or server) to any other machine. Acronis Universal Restore allows users to restore, clone and secure their data, as well as reduce infrastructure investment.

A complete and effective solution offering peace of mind and flexibility
As additional option for Acronis® Backup & Recovery® 10, Acronis Universal Restore, allows you to recover server, laptop, or workstation images to dissimilar physical or virtual hardware regardless of make, model, or installed components, including x86 architecture machines. Acronis Universal Restore enables you to take the last known clean image from the source machine and import the drivers associated with the new machine into the restore process. And, because the image is captured at the disk sector level, it already includes all your configuration, application and user files. Acronis Universal Restore reduces infrastructure investment and is an easy to use solution.

Acronis Universal Restore key benefits:

• Recovery - Recover a failed system to different hardware or a virtual server in minutes after unforeseen events.
• Clone and deploy - Clone and deploy operating systems with complete hardware independence
• Migrate - Complete physical-virtual, virtual-physical, physical-physical, or virtual-virtual migrations for system recovery, testing, and other purposes.
• Cost reduction : with Universal Restore the maintenance and acquisition of a replacement server is not necessary.

A patented disk imaging technology that has been proved successful
Acronis’ solutions are based on its patented disk imaging technology. A disk image is an exact copy of a computer or server hard disk. The snapshot contains everything the server or computer needs to run such as operating systems, applications, configuration files, user settings, and data. Disk imaging technology creates faster backups and restoration and improves return on investment when compared to traditional backup or continuous data protection (CDP) technologies
