AVAST Software: The new avast! 7 Internet Security puts a premium on virtualization

February 2012 by Marc Jacob

The new avast! 7 Internet Security suite brings the benefits of virtualization technology to the individual PC. Thanks to its Sandbox and SafeZone features, all computer users have easy access to applied virtualization.

The new avast! Internet Security and Pro Antivirus also include the new technologies in avast! Free Antivirus: streaming updates from the “cloud”, FileRep’s Internet-wide identification of clean and infected files, in addition to the Remote Assistance and the avast! Account features for helping friends out.

avast! Internet Security and Pro make online safety and privacy easier than ever. Web surfers have one-click access to browser sandboxing, allowing them to completely isolate the browser – a frequent target of malware – from the rest of their machine. New control options prevent sandboxed apps from taking screenshots or video captures. Users can also decide what private files, such as recent documents or recently typed URLs are blocked or read-only for virtualized applications. Users also have easy access to the SafeZone – the special environment for financial transactions.

avast! Internet Security is the only avast! product with the Silent Firewall and Antispam/Anti-phishing filter. The Silent Firewall restricts network access to a user’s computer according to three basic trust levels – with preset lists of acceptable sources and destination ports – while allowing for more customized settings for advanced users. Anti-phishing was added to the previous antispam plugin for Windows Outlook, weeding out counterfeit sites before they get to the users’ email box.

Both avast! Pro Antivirus and avast! Internet Security include the SafeZone and full Sandbox capabilities. Managed versions of these two premium products will be released in upcoming months.
