AMS-IX Bay Area Expands with Telx®’s San Francisco Data Center

June 2015 by Emmanuelle Lamandé

AMS-IX USA Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange), and Telx® announce a partnership to open a new AMS-IX Bay Area Point of Presence (PoP) within Telx’s SFR1 data center in San Francisco.

The partnership further enables AMS-IX Bay Area and Telx to provide reliable peering opportunities to connected parties on the AMS-IX platform, including customers that are located in other data center facilities. Customers of AMS-IX Bay Area can also locate and / or expand their equipment in SFR1, Telx’s secure, network-rich interconnection facility.

AMS-IX Bay Area provides a physical platform – deployed within three data center facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area – where parties can meet to exchange Internet-related traffic with one another. The exchange builds on the neutral and distributed formula of the world’s leading Internet Exchange, AMS-IX Amsterdam, which interconnects more than 700 unique IP networks from around the globe to exchange peak Internet traffic of close to 4 Tb/s. In addition to AMS-IX Bay Area, AMS-IX USA Inc. operates AMS-IX New York and AMS-IX Chicago.

Telx’s SFR1 is one of the premier data center and carrier facilities in Northern California. It provides access to dozens of the leading domestic and international carriers, as well as physical connection points to the world’s telecommunications networks and backbones. Additionally, the facility provides AMS-IX Bay Area with redundancy and diversity from its existing PoPs. SFR1 is also seismically rated for protection against earthquakes.
